It is rare to find Kareena Kapoor in a saree other than her favourite designer Manish Malhotra’s sarees. Recently at a promotion meet in Bhopal Kareena was spotted wearing a beautiful black Chanderi saree. Like her in the beautiful saree?
Aamir recently gifted a Rs. 25, 000 handloom saree to Kareena Kapoor made by handloom workers of Chanderi village in Madhya Pradesh. Kareena was overwhelmed by the present.
Kareena was asked to fly down to Madhya Pradesh for two days. She had to travel for 14 hours to reach Chanderi. All this while, she didn’t know where they were going and all she knew was that they had to meet Aamir. So when she received the black and gold traditional saree, like the ones the weavers used to make for the nawabs, she was overjoyed.
According to Kareena, Aamir Khan wanted her to have the saree because she is a style icon and she should promote the work of these handloom industries. The ancestors of the workers used to work for royal families. Kareena and Aamir went to the workers’ homes, interacted with them and saw that they live in miserable conditions and make only about Rs. 50 while the designers borrow their work and sell it for Rs. 30-40,000. Aamir has invited some of the workers to the premiere of 3 Idiots.

Dance Premier League a unique dance format that is soon to go on air on Sony Entertainment Television has been creating news all through its audition phases. At the on-going auditions of Dance Premier League, Bebo was seen cheering the Mumbai aspirants amidst lots of fun, frolic and fanfare. Kareena came to support and encourage the West Zone team on Dance Premier League and promote her film ‘Main Aurr Mrs Khanna’.
When we asked her about what does she expect on the show, she said, "I enjoy dance reality shows to others, and I hope a lot of people will dance to my tunes! It’s a great platform for young talent to showcase their dancing skills."
Ironically a lot of contestants chose to dance on her beau Saifu’s numbers from his latest hit Love Aaj Kal… well smart ones we say!

Kareena has played a prostitute, a bubbly girl-next-door and the ultimate glamour queen in her almost decade-long career, but Kareena Kapoor says “Kurbaan” has given her the opportunity to sink her teeth into one of the best roles in her career.
“I am so confident that in ‘Kurbaan’, audiences will take to my character in a big way,” said Kareena, who looks forward to playing a variety of roles across different genres of films.
“Especially after ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, they would see a different me in the film,” Kareena told IANS.
A Karan Johar production, “Kurbaan” is directed by first time director Rensil D’Silva and has terrorism as its background.
“The girl’s role is very strong in ‘Kurbaan’ and I have worked really hard on my performance. I’m expecting a lot from the film,” said the actress, who has won critical acclaim for her performance in “Dev” and “Omkara”.
Kareena is paired with boyfriend Saif Ali Khan in “Kurbaan”, which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Dia Mirza, Kirron Kher and Om Puri in principal roles.
The actress says she is once again expecting accolades from critics for her performance in the film.
“Well frankly, this is one film where I am expecting both box-office success and huge critical acclaim. The film is extremely well made and, to add to that, quite topical,” she said confidently.
With music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and Salim-Sulaiman, “Kurbaan” is aiming for a November release.
For Kareena, 2009 would be an eventful year as it would also see the release of Rajkumar Hirani’s “3 Idiots”, where she is paired opposite Aamir Khan, and debutant director Prem R. Soni’s “Main Aur Mrs. Khanna” with Salman Khan.
After being in the industry for close to a decade, doesn’t she aspire for more awards?
“See, ever since I began my career, I have always maintained that I want to be a star actress. I should give the kind of confidence to filmmakers that I can carry off any role confidently. Whether it is a Geet (’Jab We Met’) or a Dolly (’Omkara’), Simrita (’Kambakkht Ishq’) or the character I play in ‘Kurbaan’ - I am mixing it up all.
“For me, work is like a passion and when I do a film, I don’t really think of commercial gains or awards. What is most important for me is to be engaged in some quality stuff. I sign a film because I like to enact the character that I have been offered. If box office success and awards come then, well, it’s great,” she said.
It's a well known fact that Kareena Kapoor has always set fashion trends through her films. Now with Sajid Nadiadwala's Kambakkth Ishq the style icon hopes to set a trend once again.
Designer Aki Narula who has created the Kambakkat Ishq costumes for Kareena said, "Kareena has chosen a lot of mismatches this time so as to make it look more real..jpg)
The clothes are not over the top as seen in Hindi films. But it’s a big trend that’s catching on and looks very real on screen."
Kareena added, "everything in Kambakkth Ishq is a style statement because I play a supermodel on the film. And though it is a hardcore commercial film, I have conciously chosen non-filmi clothes." Aki Narula has sourced her clothes from Milan.
"It took me 15 days to find the right kind of clothes for Kareena. She wanted the costumes to sync well with her character, " said Aki after Jab We Met where Kareena’s clothes became a national rage, looks like Kambakkth Ishq is going to set new trends.
The promo of Sajid Nadiadwala’s movie Kambakkth Ishq has its leading stars Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor calling each other canine names.
The movie’s trailer was set to air on television from this weekend but may not go on air because the Censor Board deems it unfit for mass viewing and has given it an ‘A’ certificate.
According to reports the promo has certain objectionable content.
The Board’s regional officer is quoted as saying that the promo as has Kareena calling Akshay “a dog”. Akshay responds to her in same vein by calling her “a bitch”. If that’s not objectionable enough there’s a dialogue that says that women are only meant for making love.
Though the above dialogues could be part of the film’s comedy, the Censor Board chose to gave it an ‘A’ certificate because the context of the dialogues is not established in the promos.
It means that the promos can now be shown only in theatres and that too with movies that have ‘A’ certification.
‘Kambakkth Ishq’ is one of the most awaited films of this year. Apart from Akshay and Kareena, it has cameos by Hollywood stars like Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brandon Routh.
I’m in a hurry to wed, Saif wants to wait, says Kareena, as she does some frank speaking .
You were always an industry kid, you accompanied Lolo everywhere. In your mind was there ever another career choice?
Never, apart from wanting to be an air hostess and fly the world, but my father was very against that. He was like we will send you on a whirlwind tour whenever you want, but you are not becoming an air hostess.
Actually there was another phase that came in between, that was the lawyer phase, where I went to Govt. Law College for six months and ran away because of the books. You know it just made me so scared. I was like "I just have to leave; there’s no way I’m doing this."
I have also made things happen for me. I’ve worked with directors that not many people would take the risk of working with like Sudhir (Mishra, Chameli) and Imtiaz (Ali, Jab We Met). I mean today every one wants to work with them, but I took up that challenge because I believed in those scripts. So I think for whatever adulation is happening now, apart from my mother’s support and the directors who cast me, I really don’t have anyone to thank.
When you started your career, you had this huge controversy about leaving Kaho Na Pyaar Hai and opting for Refugee instead. Was that choice right for you?
I think it’s the best thing that happened because I got known as an actress from my first film. It was a role which was not a contemporary launch break, where you are looking beautiful and stuff. The role was performance driven. And though I was not launched with Hrithik, I did four films after that with him.
I did get launched with Abhishek, irrespective of whatever issues are there today, and that’s engraved for life, it’s on screen now that I was launched with him and I would regard that as a very special moment in my life, so to me it was again another great decision I took.
Talking about Abhishek, you sister’s choice impacted your life, still impacts your life in terms of work. How cool are you with that?
Like I said it’s never been a pitfall if I was not part of a film because he never wanted me to be a part of it, I think I would thank him for that, because its fine if he doesn’t want to work with me because I don’t want any actor to be uncomfortable. Acting is a profession in which you have to be very comfortable with each other. It’s sad that it had to reach this point but in my life there’s still room for Abhishek, I would say that quite openly that there’s still room for him. I don’t know in what way he is uncomfortable, but it’s sad, because films will come and films will go, but I just wish this little bit of room was still left in his heart for me.
You have never thought of picking up the phone and just calling him up. You must have been talking to him a lot at one time?
But if someone is uncomfortable, then I will also be uncomfortable, so its best left at that, but of course in my heart there will always be a door open.
Will this work if Saif offers you a role too?
Today if Saif offers me a role for his production and I am not happy with it, I will use my mind and I will say ‘it’s not up to the mark, Saif’. I will not make the mistake of following my heart and doing it no matter what I have done in the past.
You’ve been through adolescent romance and are now in a more mature one. How do they compare?
I think every relationship prepares you for your final destination and I think every relationship has been a preparation. I have learnt a lot of things from my relationships. If it doesn’t work out then that is God’s wish and that is destiny which I have completely come to terms with.
You turned vegetarian in your last relationship. Was it because you loved the person or did you choose to become a vegetarian?
I chose to and that is validated by the fact that I am still one in spite of me being with a man who is a hard core non-vegetarian, who at every given step would be eating his steak and his roast chicken. I did it completely because I believed in it. It’s because of a book I read and I completely believe in. Nobody has put a dagger to my head. I’ve learnt something from Shahid and that’s something that Saif appreciates and in fact Saif always tells me that "Listen, if now you go back to being a non vegetarian, I’ll loose faith in you as a person." I’ve traveled the word with Saif and he’s sat across thousands of tables from me and I’ve stuck to my French fries even though I have to put on a kilo on my scale, but I would not go for the roast chicken.
Going vegetarian changed your body type too...
I think it’s a mix of that as well as a lot of yoga which also just changed my personality.
Was Saif just there when you broke up with Shahid?
Choice is where you choose to be, and where you want to be and in such a personal issue, I think there’s so many things that happen which one shouldn’t be digging up and shouldn’t talk about. Saif has always been my friend first in that period and now my lover, so I think we’ve grown from friends to being in this relationship. And the choice is that I clearly wanted to be where I was. I don’t believe in mud slinging, I don’t believe in discussing my relationships, I think the fact that I’ve just been purely honest and I’ve never hidden the fact that I was with Saif and that I am with Saif.
So then isn’t the next logical choice marriage?
I want to tie the knot but at the right time. People think that Saif is pressurising me but I would like to say on record say that he’s never done that. In fact I am always wanting to tie the knot and he’s the one whose been telling me that "listen, lets give it some time, lets wait, your are at a stage which every girl would want to be at in their career, so sit back and just enjoy the roller coaster ride for some time. And that’s what makes me love him more to tell you the truth. I don’t think any man in the industry would ever want to tell an actress the same thing. The reason why I want to be with him is because he is so supportive of my work and respects me for what I am doing.
So he doesn’t want to change you in anyway?
Not at all, not at all. May be a little bit of more holiday time. He’s always calling up my secretary and yelling at him "From nine days my holiday has become four days because of her endorsements. But Saif is witty, he laughs about these things and that’s what makes him so unique and understanding.
The story goes that he proposes to you every day
Can you believe that? Poor thing he is so upset, he’s like "Why are they doing this to me?" Saif Ali Khan is actually the guy who has wanted to be single all his life, run away from relationships, run away from commitment, but the fact is that he always tells me "you are actually the only girl that I really wanted to commit to." I am with him all the time, but I give him space to be with his family, to do what he wants to do with his work. The fact that I am not the heroine of his first production just goes to show that we have our complete different zones when we work.
Would you choose to have kids?
I think hopefully, God willing, I pray my children look like my mother and my sister and my father and me, with our pink cheeks. When I look at my niece, Im like Oh God, she is just the most beautiful girl in the world, she is gorgeous, gorgeous, so yes of course I want to carry forward this tradition and what could be more royal than to have Saif and my child. I think it would be just wonderful. The thought is there but it’s a very far off thought because like Saif jokes, "I have three children, Sara, Ibrahim and Bebo." He himself tells me I’m not ready for kids yet.
So where is the relationship now?
Every one teases me Im a great girl friend. I have just learnt the art of balancing a working relationship and that of a girl who is involved. I think I’m just like, maybe a super woman who just kind of understands that in a relationship you have to learn to give, to get. Its just something that is in me. If someone comes to my house or someone comes to meet me, I like to make everyone feel comfortable. I think that’s just a trait that’s been with me since I’ve been a child. I like to talk to people. A woman should have that ‘comfortable’ effect on her man. At least she then knows her man is going nowhere.
The foray of Bollywood actresses into IPL hasn’t prompted Kareena Kapoor to follow suit. Preity Zinta , Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla have a stake in their respective IPL teams, but Kareena isn’t itching to join the IPL bandwagon. Kareena makes no bones in admitting that she doesn’t have much business sense.
“I have no idea about business. I only know how to act. As for business, I will think about it five years later,” Bebo is quoted as saying.
Kareena is the new youth icon of India and has gone ahead to receive four awards in the last one month and the lady’s loving all the adulation.
“Who doesn’t like attention, recognition and awards?” she quips.
Kareena got environment award from Erin Brockovich, then two youth icon awards from Rotary International and Stardust, and was recently honoured by FICCI for her contribution to Indian cinema.
While Bebo’s career is going great guns, where does marriage plan to beau Saif Ali Khan stand on her priority list?

It is learnt from reliable sources that Kareena Kapoor has finally patched up with the Bachchans now. Few days back it was wrongly reported in a Mumbai tabloid that the actress had ignored Amitabh Bachchan at an event completely.
Infact a very close friend of the actress told us that Kareena is one person who will never do so in public. “She knows how to balance her professional life and personal life. She has never shown any animosity towards them. She has been born and brought up in this industry and the question of showing disrespect for the elders will never arise.” the close friend said.
But now Mr. Bachchan has put all rumours to rest by writing in his blog that Kareena and family members as well as the Bachchan family have always given due respect to each other. Another source reveals, “Mr. Bachchan feels that Kareena is a very warm and affectionate person. She has never disrespected her elders. Mr. Bachchan has seen Kareena grown up in front of him as there has always been a huge connection between the Kapoors and the Bachchans from the great grand father times.”
It is may be recalled that that the Bachchan family was not in touch with Kareena Kapoor after Abhishek Bachchan and Karishma Kapoor broke off their engagement. In fact Kareena and Abhishek had made their debut with J.P. Dutta’s film Refugee. The duo had also received good reveiews for their performance.
But after their split Kareena and Abhishek Bachchan have never done a film. Sources had revealed that Abhishek Bachchan had refused to do films with Kareena though she was ready to work with him. In return Kareena had also refused to do Dostana with Abhishek when she was offered the film from Karan Johar.
After mesmering people with her size zero figure, Kareena Kapoor is now all set to share her fitness mantra by writing a foreword for Rujuta Diwekar’s Don't Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight.
Kareena writes about being taught “to eat well, eat right and eat regularly. She also mentions that her fitness is the result of “70% diet and 30% exercise-training and yoga."
Kareena also mentions how her diet is customised to her requirements and how every meal is planned in accordance to the level of activity of any given day.
“In Mumbai, my breakfast is muesli and milk or a chillah or parathas; no chai or coffee. While shooting for Tashan in Ladakh, I ate fresh fruit for breakfast and thukpas and momos for my other meals. I had pudina tea without milk."
Kareena also emphasises how Rujuta focuses on nutrition and not calories.
"I make sure I eat every two hours. My evening snack or meal is soy milk or a sandwich. Rujuta focuses on nutrition, not calories. Amazingly, she likes to keep the nutritional value of what you eat, as compared to the calories consumed, high."
Kareena also mentions how she learnt about being smart about food and yet enjoyed it.
"I have learnt what she means when she says, 'be smart about food' and still enjoy what you eat. Now thanks to this book, you can (learn) too and I am sure you will find it good enough to eat."
It is a rare instance when a swimmer gets afraid of water. However, such an incident took place when Kareena Kapoor stalled shoot of a sequence of the under production movie Kambakht Ishq for over six hours.
Kareena was to shoot an underwater sequence at a sports club in Mumbai for the Sajid Nadiadwala production. However; she walked out of the water in a few moments after entering it.
It was only after some production hands asked her for the reason that Kareena confessed of being scared of water. Director Sabeer Khan, then, ordered the water level to be reduced.
Kareena's co-star Akshay Kumar, too, helped her by advising her about the easiest way to execute the sequence. However, everyone at the set was surprised at Kareena's behavior since she had already shot for most of the sequence during the films schedule in Italy.
It is a well known fact that there is no love lost between the Kapoors and the Bachchans, two prominent families of Bollywood. 2009 is a special year for Rensil D’Silva as he takes the big leap from writing to direction. By now it’s known to one and all, that Rensil would be making his directorial debut with the Saif-Kareena-Vivek Oberoi starrer to be produced under the banner of Dharma Productions.
The buzz in the media circles is that the intense film is titled Jihaad but Rensil denied this rumor. "No…my film is not called Jihaad. It’s a name that the media seems to have given the film but it’s not the official title", says Rensil
Probe him a little bit on what the film is about and Rensil says, "It’s a romantic thriller set against the backdrop of global terrorism."
There is a strong buzz that Saif and Kareena are playing terrorists in the film but the director is not ready to reveal much. "I can’t reveal plot points or character sketches at this point of time", says the writer turned director, who doesn’t deny the news.
Apart from Saif, Kareena and Vivek Oberoi the film was supposed to star Tara Sharma. However, the actress is due to have her first baby soon and hence had to back out of the project. Minissha Lamba would now be essaying that part. The supporting cast also includes Kirron Kher, Om Puri and some talented new faces.
So, how much of the film’s shoot is complete at this stage? "We are around 40% through with filming. We’ve shot in Philadelphia, Delhi and the Mumbai schedule is currently underway. We plan to complete shooting by May and will release the film in the last quarter of 2009," says Rensil.
While the story of the film has been written by Karan Johar, Rensil has worked on the screenplay of the film. An interesting fact however is that instead of Dharma favorites Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, this time it would be Salim-Sulaiman who would be composing music for this film.
